Chatting with Tony Hartsfield, ILTA ’09 Applications Track Chair

Today’s Conference Committee chat is with Tony Hartsfield, the Senior Analyst, Learning Systems at Bryan Cave, LLP, who is also the Applications Track Chair. Tony serves ILTA on the User Support Peer Group Steering Committee as well.

What excites you the most about ILTA ’09?:

I find the convergence of peers and vendors, content and contacts, to be very energizing. ILTA is an important part of my professional development, which in turn makes me a more productive member of my firm.

Please briefly tell us what we’ll experience in your track.

Aligning with the overall themes of conference, the Applications Track focuses on leveraging technologies firms already have to serve their community better, more efficiently. And when new products are necessary, experts will provide guidance to make wise choices for your situation.

When did you first start coming to conference?

My first conference was at Boca Raton in 2001.

Describe a highlight of one ILTA conference that made you a hero when you got back to your firm.

At a conference a few years ago, I gained a ton of resources and ideas that helped my firm prepare for a desktop upgrade. Our strategy for training and implementation were greatly improved by the content provided by vendors and peer speakers.

Conference is a whirlwind of activity; can you share your strategy or any tips to making it through and getting the most out of it?

Comfortable shoes and plenty of water. Everybody wearing a conference name tag is a potential new friend, so set a goal to make a few.

What prompted you to get involved as a volunteer leader with ILTA?

I had such a good time at my first conference. I just knew that I would enjoy being involved as a volunteer. When the User Support Peer Group started, I jumped at the chance to serve on the steering committee.
